Card Caddy Double Decker

Created by Chris Nichols

The Card Caddy is the only playing card case that converts to a discard tray - now in a Double Decker version for bigger decks!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

3 More Days and some great design changes from your input
about 8 years ago – Sun, Apr 10, 2016 at 11:31:20 PM

Just three more days to hit the storage box stretch goal! Here's the campaign link one more time to share on your social networks:

http://kck.st/21It5gw

There's usually a surge in the last few days, so I feel pretty good that we'll make that stretch goal, but we still need your help to make it happen!

Here's some other stuff going on:

-we made the Facebook social media mini-goal, which means that there will be an additional color unlocked for the Double Deckers.  I'll send out a survey at the end of the campaign to vote for the new color

-been working on the design suggestions made by backers.

  • I modified the support ribs just in case they may catch on cards as you're closing the case
  • I brought in the measurements on the top/bottom support ribs to make room for larger sleeved cards AND to accommodate mini-cards with a divider
  • notched the bottom grid and designed a divider that can slide in

Here's the CAD before and after highlighting the changes I've made. (shown in the Singe Decker version since I just scale it to make a Double Decker.)

Changes to Card Caddy design from Backer input!

And here's the divider for mini cards (1.75 by 2.5 inches) I am printing one out for a real picture and testing, but it gives you an idea of how it will work. It should be able to slide onto the middle support rib and the notches in the bottom will keep it from sliding around too much.

I can't promise that I will be able to make the dividers for this campaign, but all Card Caddies that are produced from this Kickstarter will be ready to have them once I can get them into production. Many campaigns I've seen (Coolest Cooler, for example) got into trouble by making too many changes and add-ons to the original design and I want to stay away from that problem.

So let's make the most of the last few days and get out there and get that storage box stretch goal funded!

500 Backers and still going strong!
about 8 years ago – Thu, Apr 07, 2016 at 04:09:05 PM

It's always nice to hit a nice round number, so I was happy to see that we've hit 500 backers today.  Your support, comments and input on the Card Caddy have been great.

My special thanks go to these backers who have provided a ton of advice and comments on both the campaign and the product design - going to miss naming a few of you, but here are the backers that come to mind first:

DZero, Wyvernsrose, Steve Crowther, Eileen and Chris Larsson

I had noted in the Campaign Story that I was going to place the order for the tooling as soon as we hit the funding goal, but I'm going to wait until the end of the campaign now and see if there are any design changes that come from backer input. My manufacturer can still provide June delivery if I wait. It's a delicate process to change the design, since I am certain that the Double Decker would function exactly like the Single Decker, but there are so many excellent ideas that I'd like to try to implement what I can while not impacting the original functionality.

I'll be working on the following *backer-inspired* ideas over the weekend:

  • internal divider for mini-format cards
  • smoothing of internal features to prevent card damage
  • changes to storage box to allow further connections
  • changes to connector for scoring
  • exclusive snap-in tokens for KS backers
  • dividers (dry-erase and otherwise)

I'll also be producing some more images showing the Card Caddy in different playing situations, too and some more detailed pictures of the inside, too.

A little less than two weeks to go and we've still got a bit to go until the first stretch goal.  I've got some advertising and PR efforts coming online next week that may give a jolt to the mid-campaign doldrums, but as you all know, that best way to grow the campaign is to spread it through YOUR network!

Just in case you need it, here's that link for the campaign to drop into your next email or social media post:

Happy "day near the Spring Equinox"
about 8 years ago – Mon, Mar 28, 2016 at 08:58:12 AM

Whether you're celebrating anything or not today, be sure to make some time to play a game with friends and family!  Good quality time with the people you care about is one of the reasons I made the very first Card Caddy, so I hope it helps bring other people together in some small way, too.

Another great day!

We're so close!  I've got an early morning tomorrow, so I probably won't be awake for (hopefully) the pledge that puts us over the goal, but I'm going to be optimistic and thank everyone for backing and getting us this far.

Now on to the stretch goals - first up is the storage box.  Just think of all the cool stuff you can wedge in there!

We can do it, especially if you share the campaign to your network!  Just in case you don't have it handy, here's that link:

Happy gaming,

Chris

So here's what's great about Kickstarter. . .
about 8 years ago – Sat, Mar 26, 2016 at 07:20:29 PM

. . .of course it's all of the great support from backers - we're very close to hitting our base goal and it looks very promising that we'll make it.

But another great thing about Kickstarter is that since most of these projects are still early in the design phase, YOU THE BACKERS can still provide input and help shape the product you want. So, thanks to your comments - especially from Chris Larsson - I took a look at Connector and redesigned it so that it can serve as a counter, too.  Since there's less area to work with, I can't get as many holes or peg storage built in, but it's something you can choose to use or not use when you've taken the Connector off. The picture below shows the CAD view of the modified Connector (storage for 2 pegs is built-in on the other side)

I've just sent this to the Shapeways to make sure it works as expected and will hopefully have some pictures of an actual prototype to share before the campaign ends, but it's just one example of some of the changes I'm looking at based on YOUR comments and inputs.

So, what's great about Kickstarter is that the products are not being made by some big company that has to review everything through 5 committees and tons of meetings.  I hope to keep making products that gamers and everyone else wants and be able to listen to and respond to what my customers are looking for.

If this is the kind of gaming product YOU want, help me spread the word!

Post, email, share or telegraph the link to the campaign to your network and tell them to back a Kickstarter that will get them a cool new gaming accessory that they helped make happen!

Thanks,

Chris
